Grants News: Our Latest Projects

We’re delighted to share our latest round of grants awarded to the following grassroots projects working hard to protect and restore nature in Devon…

Moor Trees – enabling this successful South Devon tree nursery to scale-up and increase their annual production of native tree saplings from 50,000 to 60,000 per year.

Reptiles and Amphibians – kick-starting an operation to breed native reptile and amphibian offspring for wild release in suitable rewilding projects to increase population numbers of these vital species that are unlikely to recolonise naturally without intervention.

Regenerative School – supporting this brilliant regenerative agriculture training programme for a second year to enable them to find a long-term funding model, while exploring collaboration opportunities to scale-up and replicate for maximum positive impact.
(*Please get in touch if you know anyone who would like to help this project find long-term funding*)

East Devon Swales – demonstrating the effective use of swales to slow the flow of water across land, helping to prevent droughts, flooding, and soil erosion; enhancing soil and water quality in rivers and the sea; and enabling farmers and landowners adapt to climate change.

Life on the Edge – a collaboration to increase vital habitat for some of Britain’s rarest insects, through engaging with local landowners to connect up, increase, and enhance wildflower rich clifftop grassland habitat along the South Devon coast.

Wildcats – supporting Devon Wildlife Trust to conduct a scoping study to ascertain if wildcat reintroductions are advisable, and a comprehensive public engagement programme to give wildcats, if reintroduced, the best chance to thrive.

Flete Field Lab – purchasing a larger kiln for this project to be able to scale up biochar production (owned by DEF but free for them to use), and increasing paid staff time so they can make the most of the forthcoming mycelium season.
