Volunteering: Gain environmental experience and support nature restoration in Devon
If you’re looking for environmental work experience, why not become a DEF Fundraising Volunteer?
You can help vital grassroots nature restoration projects in Devon and earn a conservation certificate (see below) as a thank you.
DEF is currently oversubscribed with grassroots nature restoration projects that require funding to do their vital work.
Thanks to our generous donors, since launching in 2020 DEF has enabled over 80 projects, awarding more than £1 million in grants.
However, the demand for funding nature restoration in Devon still outstrips funds available.
You can make a huge impact for nature in Devon and raise funds for DEF by becoming a DEF Fundraising Volunteer.
And as a token of our thanks, we’ll provide you with a certificate you can print out, or display digitally (e.g. on your LinkedIn profile) to share your conservation efforts among your network and hopefully inspire others to get involved too.
You’ll also know you have personally enabled some of the most impactful local grassroots projects helping nature in Devon.
See below for full details on how to get involved.
Please share with any friends or family who may be interested in gaining environmental work experience, while helping local nature restoration projects.

INSTRUCTIONS:
To be awarded the certificate you need to complete a fundraiser challenge raising money for DEF, by following these simple steps:
- Brainstorm a fundraiser challenge of your choice (e.g. sea dips every week for 3 months, 10k run/hike/paddle, etc.)
- Visit Crowdfunder and select Conservation Collective (our parent charity).
- Click set up a fundraiser called “[Your Name]’s Fundraiser for DEF.”
- Feel free to copy and personalise the text from DEF’s team’s fundraisers (Amanda’s dip into nature OR Maisie’s dip into nature.)
- Optional – see below, if you would like to write a nature piece too.
- Email maisie@devonenvironment.org a link to the completed fundraiser /nature piece to then be awarded the DEF Conservation Fundraising Volunteer certificate.
OPTIONAL: If you would like, you could also write a short article inspired by nature which we might use as a blog post. This could be a reflection of your experience fundraising, your motivations for working in the environment sector, an informational piece about an animal, plant, or place you love – you have complete creative freedom! Approx. 200 words.
A huge thank you for helping us to raise funds for nature in Devon, we really appreciate any support you can give! 💚
See Maisie’s fundraiser below and here – feel free to copy/adapt to create your own.
