Devon is renowned for its natural beauty. Each year 6-8 million visitors flock to enjoy our stunning beaches, rugged moors, and picturesque rural landscapes.

What if every meal, stay, or booking could help protect our local environment; restoring meadows and woodlands, cleaning up rivers, and helping local wildlife to thrive?

That’s the idea behind Hospitality for Nature – a simple but powerful initiative, inviting hospitality businesses to add an optional £1 donation to their customer bills.

 

Small ask, big difference

By adding a voluntary £1 to each bill or booking, customers can directly support grassroots nature restoration projects across Devon. The donation is completely optional, but experience from similar campaigns shows that most customers are happy to take part—and many even choose to give more.

Better still, 100% of donations go directly to funding local nature restoration projects.

 

Why it matters

Nature restoration is one of the most effective ways to tackle the challenges we face today—from biodiversity loss to climate change and water quality.

Funds raised through this initiative help to:

  • Restore natural habitats and wildlife corridors
  • Protect and reintroduce native species
  • Build climate resilience across landscapes and communities
  • Reduce pollution and support innovative nature-based solutions

 

Since launching in 2020, DEF has already raised over £1.9 million to support environmental projects across Devon – with ambitions to reach £5 million by 2030.

Getting involved is easy:

  • Add an optional £1 donation at checkout (with a clear opt-out)
  • Display simple signage or include a short message on menus or booking confirmations (provided by DEF)
  • Transfer collected funds to DEF periodically

 

Importantly, there’s no cost to your business, minimal admin, and no impact on VAT—donations are treated separately and passed directly to DEF.
