Q3 2024 GRANTS

Kenn Valley Farm Cluster – £5,000

Farmers in the Kenn Valley are developing a farmer-led biodiversity monitoring model to enhance environmental stewardship and engagement across their landscape. Spanning 3,000 hectares over 14 farms, this year-long project helps farmers track biodiversity and adopt sustainable farming practices to improve ecosystem health.

Dartmoor Nature Alliance – £8,760

The Dartmoor Nature Alliance (DNA) is a collective of ecologists, landowners, farmers, and park users dedicated to amplifying an independent voice for nature’s recovery on Dartmoor. The initiative focuses on enhancing biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and promoting sustainable practices to create a resilient environment that supports diverse wildlife.

Disco Scallops – £7,500

Disco Scallops is developing innovative new ways of fishing, helping local Devon based fishers use cutting-edge technology to protect the marine environment. Scientists and fishers have discovered a new and environmentally friendly way of catching scallops. Whilst trialing a new method of catching lobster and crab, it was proven that attaching special underwater ‘disco’ lights to fishing pots attracts scallops. This reduces the need for traditional dredging which causes damage to the marine environment.

Tamar Beavers – £10,000

Devon is in the unique position of being the only county in England with thriving beaver populations on several rivers. The project will build on the success of previous reintroduction efforts across Devon and work to beavers on the Tamar. Working closely with landowners, this project provides practical solutions and interventions, finding ways for landowners to benefit from making space for beaver-created wetlands. The Tamar Beaver Project will work to display and support the role of beavers in ecosystem restoration and inspire widespread support for their role in conservation.
